2018 Pét-Nat of Gruner Veltliner
We had the rare chance to experiment with a few particularly bright lots of our Gruner Veltiner, which is a coveted grape in our winery. This Pét-Nat experiment is a blend of our skin-maceration trials of 2018, with a portion of direct pressed wine included, as well. We had expected to release this wine almost exactly a year ago, however, the the wine took exceptionally long to finish fermenting in bottle.
This is hands down one of the most exotic and uniquely expressive Pét-Nat bottlings to date. It's aromatics are evocative of asian pear, cloves, and white pepper, which are matched with saline, tropical fruit qualities on the palate. A touch of residual sugar gives the wine a bit more weight, but it is balanced by a vibrant acidity. The stars aligned to allow us to produce this wine, so who knows when or if it will be made again. That said, the charm of Pét-Nat is fleeting and to be enjoyed in the moment, so sit back and drink now. There will always be exciting projects in the future
