the farm & the winery
Located in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, within the Van Duzer Corridor AVA, Johan Vineyards is a 175-acre certified Biodynamic estate vineyard and winery with 87 acres under vine. Our goal is to create a self-sustained holistic farm system with the energy to produce an honest expression of itself, to share with others.

the biodynamic approach & the farm individuality
We see our vineyard as an individual organism that will eventually showcase its own identity through the fruit it develops. Biodynamics farming combines the knowledge of premium viticulture practices with an understanding on how to treat the vineyard and its surrounding areas in order to achieve desired long-term farming results. We use the preparations 500-508 as prescribed by Rudolf Steiner, which are a range of homeopathic applications to promote healthy and holistic growth.
In addition, we maintain over 30 acres as a biodiversity preserve, which includes virgin oak savannah and biologically active riparian zones.
We see our farm as a living, self-sustaining ecosystem. Our approach to biodynamic farming is rooted in caring for the land, the vines, and the wider environment, with every practice designed to support the health and vitality of our vineyard. As a Demeter-certified biodynamic estate, we uphold rigorous standards that support a healthy, self-sustaining farm and produce wines that truly reflect our sense of place.
the farm/wine connection
For the past eight years, we’ve taken our commitment to the next level by practicing no-till farming and welcoming animals into our vineyard. Our 50 sheep and 40 chickens help naturally manage the land-grazing, fertilizing, and keeping things in balance. This gentle, hands-on approach keeps our soils healthy and full of life, which we believe leads to better, more expressive wines.
